Considered as the “Olympics of Technology” by computer science and engineering departments, ImagineCup is one of the top competitions Microsoft offers related to technology and software design. That’s why when I was first approached to lead a team that would help design this year’s conference branding – I was thrilled at the opportunity. What makes ImagineCup unique is that all competitors create projects that address the ImagineCup theme: “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems”. These students then enter to win the ImagineCup trophy awarded to only the most prestigious of teams. Started in 2003, it has steadily grown in size, with more than 358,000 competitors representing 183+ countries and regions each year. Under my art direction, I spearheaded marketing efforts across video creation, web development, and email outreach.

Under my strategic direction, the ImagineCup event registration witnessed a remarkable 30% surge following the development of the event site. This achievement underscores the importance of a seamlessly designed and user-friendly website in driving audience engagement and boosting participation.

A pivotal opportunity presented itself with the task of redesigning ImagineCup’s event logo. Leveraging my creative vision, our agency crafted a new treatment that resonated with the essence of the event—the students. This transformative logo redesign played a crucial role in enhancing brand identity and solidifying ImagineCup’s unique positioning.

Video Editing Unveiling Microsoft’s Keynote Presentation

Needless to say, when someone tells you the CEO of Microsoft (Satya Nadella) is going to be delivering the keynote speech at a conference that you will help design… it’s a bit intimidating. But with the help of a little After Effects magic and video editing in Adobe Premiere, I constructed a promotional video for non-attendees to watch online later that day. Receiving content on the fly, with less than a 24hr turn-around time proved both challenging as well as rewarding; most of the editing needed to utilize jump-cuts and quick transitions to emphasize the energy of the event.

Establishing a robust physical brand presence is paramount for consumer recognition, especially in the competitive landscape of Microsoft’s ImagineCup. Through meticulous adherence to a set of consistent style guidelines, I orchestrated a comprehensive suite of promotional materials, from lanyards to swag bags. This strategic approach fostered a cohesive and immersive experience for every participant, ensuring a tangible and lasting brand impact at the conference.

As Creative Director of our digital marketing team, I spearheaded the design and implementation of highly effective email marketing campaign templates for ImagineCup. This included daily monitoring and reporting on conversion tracking and open rates. Precision audience segmentation was the key to the soaring open rates, showcasing the strategic and data-driven approach that is vital in maximizing content engagement and success for Microsoft’s premier student competition. These efforts not only demonstrated leadership in digital marketing but also played a crucial role in achieving measurable campaign success.
